Tucked into the measure is a provision that gives TikTok’s Beijing-based parent company, ByteDance, nine months to sell it or face a nationwide prohibition in the United States. The president can grant a one-time extension of 90 days, bringing the timeline to sell to one year, if he certifies that there’s a path to divestiture and “significant progress” toward executing it. These days, it’s a mostly different story—though one that’s been unquestionably impacted by the uncertainties of the past few years. Get to know Bunker Hill, the Historic Core and beyond with these things to do in Downtown Los Angeles.

History buffs will appreciate its place as Downtown’s oldest commercial building (1893); movie buffs will recognize the zigzagging staircases from the climax of Blade Runner. Even if you’re not there for the food, this century-old spot is worth a trip; people from all corners of L.A. Some of the most impressive pieces of architecture are buildings of worship, and the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels is no exception.

It's home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic, one of the most celebrated orchestras in the country. The "winter season" of the LA Phil at the Disney Concert Hall typically runs from October to June (in the summer, they play at the Hollywood Bowl). It is also the home of the LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, a museum that charts Latino history from the arrival of the first 11 Mexican families who were among the earliest settlers in Los Angeles. There are only three official Japantowns in the United States, and all three of them are in California. The one in Los Angeles, known as Little Tokyo, is the largest of the three and also a National Historic Landmark.

The Last Bookstore, at the corner of Fifth and Spring streets in Downtown Los Angeles, has become an international tourist draw. They don't just sell, buy, and trade second-hand books and records at The Last Bookstore. They've created an intriguing combination of quirky art and wide-ranging literature in a really unique space. The bones of the original architecture are allowed to shine through with a painted beamed ceiling supported by classic columns. The second floor wraps around the open first floor with a balcony walkway, keeping your eyes busy with everything going on above and below. Upstairs houses unique art studios and galleries, a knitting shop, and a labyrinth of more books, including the dollar room with over 100,000 books for $1.

Into a vibrant cultural hub got a lift when a portion of Grand Park’s 12 acres officially opened to the public in July 2012. Dotted with fountains, picnic lawns, bright pink benches and plenty of nooks from which to sit and people-watch, Grand Park is a bright urban oasis that proves the city has a sense of romance.

The old-school strategy of driving (or walking) around and looking for open house signs still works. If there’s a particular neighborhood where you’re looking to buy, set aside some time during the week to explore side streets and find open houses that are happening that weekend. You can also take note of any that are scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.

Popular neighborhoods include Lake Potomac, Glen Hills, West Rockville, Upper Potomac, Wyngate, Central Rockville, Carderock, Old Georgetown Estates, Carderock Springs, and Bannockburn Heights. There are currently 2 open houses for sale in Woodland Hills at a median listing price of $1.3M. Most homes for sale in Woodland Hills stay on the market for 38 days and receive 9 offers.

Knowing how to find an open house can help you see what’s currently available and evaluate potential homes up close.

“I'm pretty sure one will come to the floor, if he doesn't resign at some point, but we're trying to avoid that,” he said. Massie, a Kentucky Republican, added that they are giving Johnson the chance to resign, although the speaker has insisted he won’t. Massie added he believes a motion to vacate — a rarely used procedural tool to remove the House speaker — will happen eventually. Greene argued that more House Republicans will support their effort after going home over recess and speaking with their constituents. “When faced with the question of whether to provide offensive aid to further this conflict, we believe there is a moral imperative to find another path," the statement said.

Redfin is redefining real estate and the home buying process in Woodland Hills with industry-leading technology, full-service agents, and lower fees that provide a better value for Redfin buyers and sellers. There are currently 4 open houses for sale in Potomac at a median listing price of $1.5M. Some of these homes are "Hot Homes," meaning they're likely to sell quickly. Most homes for sale in Potomac stay on the market for 14 days and receive 10 offers.

The park also includes 24 botanic gardens inspired by the six floristic kingdoms of the world and plenty of green lawn for playing and relaxing. The Fashion District is a great place to shop for bargain clothes, textiles, and accessories. Previously known as the Garment District, this expansive neighborhood sits in the southern part of downtown L.A. One of the most popular areas is a street of outdoor shopping called Santee Alley, where you can find great deals and cheap knock-off brands.

Also, don't miss out on trying a California roll from any one of the sushi restaurants in the area ⎯ it was invented right in the neighborhood. "This is definitely the exact kind of house where you would dream," Gambino said in an interview with USA TODAY. "It's a very special house where people immediately get, you know, emotionally connected when they're there."

TikTok said will wage a legal challenge against what it called an “unconstitutional” effort by Congress. If the Last Bookstore Downtown were really our last bookstore, we’d be in good shape. Currently housed in what used to be an old bank building (complete with marble columns and giant doors), this store is as popular for its stellar book selection as it is for its labyrinth of literary photo ops. Walk through the archway entrance of this otherwise nondescript brick building and you're greeted with a stunning, light-flooded alley of wood, iron and brick. You’ll have to most of your gawking from the ground floor (and half a flight of stairs) as the rest of the building is private office space.

Still, if you’re interested in visiting an open house in person, there are many available, and plenty of ways to locate them. It’s easy to view houses for sale online, but the best way to get the full picture is to go to an open house. Overseeing Tuesday’s panel and advocating for the administration’s federal action plan was Doug Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris. Emhoff said the plan aims to reduce the country’s roughly 132 suicides a day. I think what it comes down to is reaching out and making that connection, and I don’t think there’s some such thing as too much love.

There is plenty to see and do in LA, and the PCH will guide you to some of the best spots. The Santa Monica pier and 3rd street Promenade, Venice Beach, an optional drive around the Palos Verdes Peninsula, and Long Beach are just a few of the MANY stops you could make while in LA. The Pacific Coast Highway continues for a few more miles, passing through Newport Beach, before joining up with Interstate 5 at Dana Point. While this is technically the end of the Pacific Coast Highway, I’d encourage you to drive the short addition to San Diego, which makes a much better southern terminus. Over the years, some very special people have given their heart and soul to keep up the tradition started here by Belle in the ‘40’s.

"Our outreach teams are working to urgently find housing for the individuals living in this encampment and address the safety issues posed by this structure and its proximity to the river," the statement said. "The house is amazing," said one man who lives in the area. The highway patrol, which is leading the investigation, said alcohol and drugs were not considered a factor. The chain soon became a fixture throughout the Southwest.

Eureka is the last large town before the route dips inland to get around the Lost Coast. From there, you’ll jump onto the Pacific Coast Highway for the first time where it’s windy coastal roads and secluded beaches for miles. Point Reyes National Seashore provides one last stop to enjoy nature before you approach San Fransisco, crossing the Golden Gate Bridge to enter the city. “Our thoughts continue to be with the guests who were involved, and we are thankful that based on agency reports, the injuries sustained were minor.

The apartment also had a phone that connected Dixie and Jo to the kitchen, and at times, Belle would call them and check on them or let them know that some peppermint ice cream was on the way. They were not permitted in the restaurant during open hours. It sits on historic Highway 30 at the east end of The Dalles. Before the construction of Interstate 84, It was either the first place you came to on the way into town or the last stop before heading into the east counties.

If you want to cover distance fast, then the better option is to enjoy only segments of the PCH and dip out to Interstate 5 when you want to move quickly. If you were to drive the entire length this guide details, you’ll be spending over 35 hours just driving. I would recommend giving yourself 3 days as a minimum for each section, or 15 days total for the entire route. Sure, but the trade-off is more time in the car and less time seeing the sights. Highway 101 heads through Crescent City before passing straight through Redwoods National Park. These huge tree keep popping up along the entirety of this section.

Highway 101 takes an inland route through most of California, but heads out to take the PCH’s place after Leggett. 101 is a natural extension and continues on for an additional 777 stunning miles to Port Angeles, Washington. Needless to say, there is a LOT of beautiful country to explore, and that’s even before mentioning the 70 mile southern extension to San Diego.

America’s patients will be the biggest winners of all. Large healthcare systems need not wait for the FDA to rethink its approach. The people who live in the makeshift home on the edge of the 110 freeway would not speak to the station, but neighbors who did gave mixed reactions. The number of encampments built above the “dry river” has increased in recent years as 46,000 Los Angeles residents are experiencing homelessness, the station reported. The impressive and seemingly sturdy structure stands out among the dozens of makeshift shelters, tents and tarps that those without a home have constructed along the drainage basin, as filmed by local news station KTLA. I had driven by and thought it was just a local dive. Opened the door and was pleasantly surprised and suddenly felt underdressed. According to a 2023 survey by the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists, the vast majority of its members would be willing to pay more for drugs sourced from high-quality suppliers. It’s possible, if not likely, that some high-quality manufacturers are only little more expensive than those selling lower-quality drugs. But without independent testing, pharmacies, doctors and patients are flying blind. Other consumer-facing agencies take a different approach to product quality.

In 1901, at the age of 14, Grover Webb hopped a freight car out of Spruce Pine, N.C. Webb was among several historic families that migrated to Wasco County, including families such as the Conleys and Ashleys. The Hi-Way House had its humble beginnings when Belle Webb Beatie purchased Hansen’s Tavern in 1940. Over the next few years business was lean as the country was swept up in World War II following the attack on Pearl Harbor. However, it didn’t take long to become a favorite dining destination – situated along historic US Highway 30, the Hi-Way House became a popular spot for travelers and locals alike. The ‘50’s saw the Hi-Way House booming  with  support by the many construction crews working on The Dalles Dam and over the next several decades, it became a weekend favorite of farm families from the surrounding counties.

The remodel is definitely an homage to that sensibility and to their great grandmother and all the staff and operators that came after her in the last 80 years. A reputation for great Steaks, fun Cocktails, and amazing service, a reputation that we are very proud to carry on today at the Hi-Way House. Based on this assurance, America’s drug wholesalers and pharmacy benefits managers scour the globe to find manufacturers willing to sell at the lowest possible price. This program aims to reduce pollution from idling trucks at our nation’s ports while modernizing infrastructure and strengthening supply chains. A lot of money is involved—between $3.26 billion and $5.11 billion over the next 10 years. Astoria, and the massive Columbia River, mark the northern terminus of the Oregon section of Highway 101. The following 347 miles to the southern border are arguably the best of this entire guide. Most of the route is situated right next to the ocean.

Saturday to the theme park in Universal City, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) northwest of downtown LA, the agency said in a social media post. Homeless Californians built a house complete with rock walls, a garden, a barbecue grill, a hammock, decorative string lights, potted plants and working electricity on a strip of land wedged between a busy freeway and the Arroyo Seco in Los Angeles. One of the historic photos that has hung at the Hi-Way House for years shows George Hilderbrand’s ground-powered harvester in Sherman County circa 1900. John and Wanda Hilderbrand of the same family still frequent the restaurant.

Unfortunately, there’s a big disconnect between the frequency of quality problems that trigger FDA recalls and the agency’s stand on generic drug quality. Today, China, India, and a few other nations dominate global production of generic drugs and ingredients. This makes America increasingly vulnerable to supply disruptions or embargoes. Department of Defense recently determined that more than half of its pharmaceutical supply chain is at “high” or “very high” risk.

You’ll follow the water south to Santa Cruz, a small city with youthful flair. Monterey is just on the other side of the bay, home to the famous aquarium and Cannery Row. Once you pass Monterey, it’s all about the Big Sur coastline. This is the most dramatic section of road as it winds above huge cliffs and thick forests. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety also crash-tests cars and independently posts its findings. Consumer Reports and other groups rate cars based on their performance and features and share their findings with consumers. None of this work infringes on NHTSA’s regulatory authority. My personal preference is from north to south because then the water is on my right and there is easier access to many oceanside stops. That being said, do whatever works best logistically.

Oregon is a hard state to drive through, because there are cute oceanside towns even few miles that dare you not to stop. Wide sandy beaches, quirky oceanside attractions, and amazing seafood is the name of the game. Further south is the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, home to 500 foot tall oceanside dunes.

The Hi-Way House, now under the ownership of Dixie, is slated for a reopening in days to come. Dixie’s children, Chris Schanno and Amy Sugg, and her grandchildren are reloading. They have remodeled the restaurant, while keeping the charms of the past including the horseshoe bar, red booths and historic photos that adorn the walls and date back in family lore to 1940. The restaurant has a Rat Pack kind of feel or film noir/ roadhouse vibe.

Dixie said people were concerned if not fearful of the newcomers and the immense need for additional services, such as Dry Hollow and Petersburg schools. But it came to pass, as the difficult and dangerous work attracted respectful people who were willing to do an honest day's work, Dixie said. Jack Beatie died in the late 50s, and Belle sold the trailer park and returned to The Dalles in 1959, Dixie said, noting Belle lived in the house at the corner of Dry Hollow Road and Kelly Avenue for 26 years.

Graduate students who have been admitted to the University of Georgia can register for housing in The Dawg House. Registration alone does not commit you to living on campus, nor does it guarantee you a space. Students should plan to leave the residence halls May 8, 2024 at 12 p.m.

If you already have somebody in mind, you may select them once the roommate matching goes live. We’ll notify you when it gets closer with more detailed instructions. In lieu of in-person tours, our 360-degree video tours on YouTube allow you to be immersed in the environment of each residence hall. Bulldogs Friends+Family magazine is intended to provide students, friends, and family information and resources related to move in and living on campus. The Community Guide is a very important document—you actually agreed to abide by the policies found in the Community Guide when you executed your online housing contract.

While we are unable to process roommate requests ahead of time, we will do our best to accommodate your preferences during the check-in process. If you wish to share a room with someone you already know, plan to arrive for check in together. Upon arriving on campus, check in at Black-Diallo-Miller Hall to drop off your belongings before checking in at the Tate Student Center for your orientation session. Although carts are available in many buildings, there is a limited number of carts available for students to use.

Undergoing renovations for summer 2024, Boggs Hall will have enhanced and updated lobby, lounge, laundry, community bathroom and kitchen spaces. Residents enjoy its in-room sinks, room size and proximity to Bolton Dining Commons and the Tate Student Center. Boggs Hall is one of six halls that accommodates supplemental housing. All residence halls have secure two-factor building access, WiFi and Ethernet internet access, laundry rooms, study lounges, community kitchens and access to a 24-hour desk. These actions may occur simultaneously, separately and/or independently. Soule Hall is the oldest residence hall at the university and is the only hall reserved for women.

Generally, renter’s insurance can protect you from loss due to fire, storms, smoke, vandalism, burglary, etc. University Housing is not liable for any damage to personal property. Residents who develop healthy relationships and build communities feel a stronger sense of belonging.

Built in 1920 and since renovated, Soule is best known for its Southern charm, rocking chair porches, large kitchens and a central parlor for social gatherings and watching television. Graduate and undergraduate students with families, spouses or domestic partners who have been admitted to the University of Georgia can register for housing. Current students already live in University housing or are currently enrolled at the University of Georgia and living off campus. Being in a roommate group allows both roommates to assign each other to a space (during appointment times or on same-hall day). If you find any room with an empty space you may reserve it for your roommate and vice-versa.

For most students, move in for fall 2024 begins  Friday, August 9. More information will be added to this page as details are finalized. Residents who develop interpersonal skills will more effectively communicate and engage with the world around them. Communication is the process in which one shares and receives information and ideas. Recognizing one’s own worldview and perspectives is key to understanding and being understood.

Recycling stations will be set up near dumpsters during move in to collect Styrofoam, plastic film and cardboard. For a comprehensive list of items residents can recycle, visit the Athens-Clarke County Recyclable Items page. University Housing recommends that students obtain some type of renter’s insurance whether that be a special policy or as a part of the parents’ homeowner policy.

Any damage found in your room—as well as missing or lost keys—may result in a fee that will be applied to your student account. Current rates are per resident per term, include a programming fee and have been approved by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents. Students may start receiving mail and package the day of their check in. Please do not plan to have anything arrive prior to your check-in date, as it may be returned to sender. Socially aware residents understand who they are and how their values, beliefs, and identities shape their worldview.

Now it’s time for Boom to get his bearings and pick up some hardware of his own. Room change requests will be available in The Dawg House after committing to the original room reservation and contract.

Owner Don Andes, who also operates Little Joy Cocktails in the neighborhood and Out There Bar in Twentynine Palms with business partner Joaquin Reyna-Donaldson, previously operated the Holloway in the same location as the Lonely Oyster for seven years. We started by sharing a dozen Sweet Jesus oysters on the half, a variety farmed on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake. Their clean flavor and buttery texture only whetted our appetite for more.

Pleasantly surprised an oyster place can survive in Wilmington. There are many ways to enjoy a good oyster, but there are some “rules” of tasting that should not be broken. This knowledge is important to know and understand in order for you to be able to share it with your guests if they have never tried an oyster before, or simply if they ask.

THE SIX S’S OF OYSTER TASTING

The cocktails are intended to pair well with the fare; an early hit is the $17 house-special martini made with gin or vodka, vermouth, olives, and a lemon twist. A raw oyster on a half shell with a heap of caviar can be served alongside for an additional $13. Not many people know this, but the oysters at Mariscos Jalisco are incredible.

Of course, no visit is complete without their signature tacos or ceviches, but next time you’re here, add an oyster or two to whatever you order. They sell them for a dollar or two a pop, but our favorite way to enjoy them is just ordering the campechana—a rich, tomato-based cocktail packed with an ocean’s-worth of shrimp, abalone, baby octopus, and one raw oyster floating on top. Thank you for your interest in Trolley Square Oyster House for your next special event! This place is bright and airy, and remains shockingly tourist-free for how close it is to the beach (if you’re sitting in the right seat, you can see the water). They’ve also got some of the friendliest staff around. If you don’t enjoy fish, it’s only fair to warn you that non-seafood options are limited to a cheese sampler, a burger and a fried chicken club sandwich, so you’ll have to be good sports for the others in your party.

At the Trolley Square Oyster House we promise to deliver an unforgettable experience for you and your guests. We offer a unique variety of menus for group dining. The oyster house concept dates to the mid-19th century, when the appetite for the shellfish was so great, violent conflicts broke out between Chesapeake Bay watermen and intruding poacher-pirates from New England.

The place was packed with a diverse crowd of partiers at the shaded bar in the courtyard and others watching sports on TV downstairs. Diners conversed at the row of tables nearby or relaxed at tables on the upstairs deck. Crowded and convivial, Trolley Square Oyster House is a perfect addition to the scene in upstate’s premier dining-nightlife neighborhood. Though the popularity of classic oyster houses faded in the middle half of the 20th—along with oyster harvests in some areas—some restaurateurs began to resurrect the idea a few years ago, as more cultured or farmed oysters became available. Many owners revived a Victorian feeling in their oyster houses, but dining among the dark paneling and reproduced period furniture often felt more kitschy than transporting. On a recent visit, ours arrived as a plate of six large, plump oysters topped with a heap of buttery spinach sprinkled with panko crumbs.

Here are the top 10 places to feast on fresh oysters in the First State. Another great seafood concept from the Big Fish Restaurant Group in the heart of Trolley Square in downtown Wilmington. Casual seafood focused eatery and local hot spot offering the freshest seafood available.

Since oysters filter water, they ingest all naturally occurring plankton, bits of plant life, salt and minerals from the water they grow in. The biological makeup of seawater can vary greatly bay to bay, ocean to ocean, and especially north to south. This drastically alters all aspects of the oyster that lives in the various bodies of water.

Most notable was the tartar sauce, which is lighter, creamier and more subtly flavored than the sweet pickle relish-mayonnaise glop most places serve. Through decor and menu, Trolley Oyster has brought the concept thoroughly up to date. The owners kept the exposed brick walls and the contemporary elements of its recent predecessor in that space (a long-ago converted townhouse), while adding some new touches. In the deep, narrow dining-lounge area downstairs, a marble bar tops a base of white subway tile.

The  hint of tartness of the saffron-scented broth was more than compensated for by the abundance of clams, calamari and mussels—and by the large slices of buttery, garlicky chargrilled sourdough. The toast is good enough to be sold as a side, and I used it enthusiastically to clean the broth from the bowl. With the emergence of comfort food more than a decade ago, oysters Rockefeller began to reappear, as it does at Trolley Square Oyster House in Wilmington.

But if you’d rather sit inside, there's a long wooden bar where you can bring a date. If you can, stop by on a Monday night to take advantage of Liv’s half-off oyster deal. The blanket of Parmigiana-rich greens kept the oysters moist. A dash of Pernod gave a sweet, mildly spicy note to the topping. And the panko, ever crispy, provided a welcome contrast of textures. My compliments to chef Silvy Bravo and his team—and a plea to let them remain on the menu in perpetuity. All of the food was diverse but full of great flavor . The Chesapeake then supplied half of all oysters consumed around the world. Behind the stoves is chef Carlos Lopez, who previously cooked at Rekondo and Kokotxa in San Sebastian, Spain, and Avra in Beverly Hills. The more we talked about oysters, the more irresistible they became. We finished with half a dozen Chincoteague Salts and another half of Beausoleils. Sampling them side by side reveals exactly how terroir—the salinity of their native waters, general water quality, temperature, diet and other factors—influences their flavors. The Chincoteagues showed lots of brine up front, the Beausoleils, from New Brunswick, were cleaner, but not without a hint of salt. Our first visit started at happy hour on a summer Friday.

The meeting went so well, and the email Freeman sent afterward was so compelling (he offered to be her longtime editor, snowplow, hurricane lamp, map holder and in-house fire starter, among other things) that Khong signed a deal with Knopf five days later. When a fresh oyster is shucked masterfully, a small pool of clear liquid will remain with the oyster in the bottom half of the shell. It is actually filtered sea water from which the oyster lived in, and holds a robust, unique to-that-oyster flavor. Our favorite places to eat fresh fish, oysters, uni, and more. We decided to graze widely on our second visit, made on a Thursday about 7 p.m.

As the name might imply, this spot on the Redondo Pier takes seafood very seriously. It’s basically a fish market with a huge, multi-level dining room, and when you want to order oysters, you grab a sheet of paper, mark what you want, and hand it over for them to shuck. They source their oysters from all over the globe, including both coasts of the US, New Zealand, and Scotland. The wait for a table was about 30 minutes, so we sat at a cocktail rail near a television at the back of the main room to kill the time, then decided to stay put. Convivial can mean loud—which I don’t object to—but my imperfect ears missed the full-volume tone of the texted page. OUR MENUS

Strips of dark and light woods alternate on the floor. Shiny stainless steel chairs and stools contrast with wood tabletops. Sitting at the bar is a treat with great bartenders and plenty of TVs to watch whatever games are on. Besides delicious oysters the steamer pots and the oyster po’ boy are my favorites. Folded into it are doomed love stories, fancy parties, a subplot about epigenetics, Chinese people who look white and yummy treats (before becoming a novelist, Khong was executive editor of the beloved food magazine Lucky Peach).

They’ve also got great cocktails (our preference with oysters is a French 75) and offer a dozen or a half-dozen oysters at a discount during Happy Hour. Dudley Market catches most of the seafood they serve at their Venice restaurant on the team's very own fishing boat. These come with a really pepper-lime mignonette and go great with their long list of natural wines.

Set amid the crowds and the urban commotion of Grand Central Market, The Oyster Gourmet is an unusual-looking, vaguely steampunk-y small wooden stand designed to look like a giant open oyster shell. And as you might expect, they’ve really only got three things on the menu besides wine, and the one most worth your time is the plate of oysters. The selection constantly changes, and the shuckers are super knowledgeable–so even if you don’t know the difference between a Blue Point and a Wellfleet, they’re always happy to help you figure out what you’ll like. An awesome Manhattan Beach seafood spot the size of a studio apartment, Fishing With Dynamite is the best place to go in the South Bay for oysters and a beer.
